2022 BMW 5 Series: Power & Performance
The 5 Series comes equipped with an impressive 2.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder 16-valve engine. It features Double-VANOS and Valvetronic capabilities as well as high-precision direct injection. It is paired with an 8-speed Sport automatic transmission that features Sport and Manual shift modes, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and Launch Control. It can generate power outputs that achieve 248 horsepower and 257 lb.-ft of torque.
A fuel-saving feature in this sedan is its Auto Start-Stop technology. This feature works by automatically stopping your engine when you come to a stop. Places like stoplights, signs, or other moments of prolonged stoppage will trigger this function. While stopped, you won’t waste precious energy waiting—then, the moment you release the brake and move forward, the engine will automatically be switched back on. This gives you an advantage in making your tank go as far as possible.

Jumping off from this is the impact sensor that activates Battery Safety Terminal disconnect of alternator, fuel pump, and starter from battery, and then automatically unlocks doors and switches on hazard and interior lights.
